SMILE
Home Learning Wellbeing Resources
Here at Fordbridge Community Primary School we are committed to the wellbeing and mental health of the whole school community. We have implemented the SMILE approach across school in order for everyone to reach their full potential and to develop strategies to encourage positive mental health and wellbeing. This whole school approach addresses the 5 areas promoted by the NHS in order to manage our own wellbeing.
Socialise and connect with others
Move and get connected
Interest and notice things
Learn and keep learning
Engage in something and give to others
Remember that your mental health is just as important as your physical health!
Children Mental Health Week 2026
During Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, we focused on the theme My Voice Matters, encouraging pupils to recognise that their thoughts, feelings, and ideas are important.
We began the week with a whole‑school assembly to introduce the theme and highlight the importance of expressing ourselves in healthy, creative ways. Staff and children also took part in “Dress to Express,” choosing outfits that reflected their personalities and interests. Throughout the week, pupils explored different ways to share their feelings through art, music, writing, drama, movement, and other creative activities. These experiences helped children build confidence, communicate their emotions, and understand that their voice truly matters.

#HelloYellow
Fordbridge proudly support World Mental Health Day by taking part in Hello Yellow to raise money for YoungMinds. On this day staff and children are encouraged to wear yellow to show support for young people’s mental health, helping to create a bright, positive atmosphere across the school. Alongside fundraising, classes take part in discussions and simple wellbeing activities to help children understand the importance of looking after their mental health and supporting one another. The day provides meaningful opportunities for our school community to come together, raise awareness, and celebrate the message that no one has to struggle alone.
Because we stand brighter, together.
Anti-bullying week
Fordbridge is proud to support the Anti‑Bullying Alliance and takes part in Anti‑Bullying Week each year to promote kindness, respect, and positive relationships across the school. We begin the week with Odd Socks Day, where staff and children wear brightly coloured, mismatched socks to celebrate individuality and remind everyone that it’s okay to be different. Throughout the week, classes engage in discussions, stories, and activities that help pupils understand what bullying is, how to recognise it, and how to seek help. This celebrates the ability we all have to stand up to bullying, spread kindness, and create safer environments for every child. These activities encourage children to celebrate uniqueness, support one another, and contribute to a safe, inclusive school community.
