Science at Fordbridge

At Fordbridge Community Primary School, our vision is to inspire a lifelong curiosity and passion for science in every child. We believe science should be hands-on, inclusive and engaging, giving all pupils the opportunity to explore and understand the world around them with confidence and wonder.

Through our carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum, recognised through the achievement of the PSQM GILT Award, we nurture young scientists who are inquisitive, reflective and resilient. Our lessons are practical, vocabulary-rich and designed to encourage children to ask questions, investigate ideas and develop a secure understanding of key scientific concepts.

We are proud of our commitment to:

  • High-quality science teaching that supports and challenges all learners, including pupils with SEND.
  • Investigative learning opportunities that develop essential scientific enquiry skills, including observing, predicting, measuring, recording and drawing conclusions.
  • Real-world scientific experiences, helping pupils understand how science influences everyday life and introducing them to a wide range of STEM careers.
  • Collaborative learning, where children work together, communicate effectively and respectfully, and celebrate the diverse ideas and contributions of others.
  • Continuous professional development for staff, ensuring science teaching remains engaging, effective and up to date.

Our children tell us they enjoy science because it is exciting, practical and helps them make sense of the world around them. From exploring habitats in Key Stage 1 to investigating forces, properties and living things in Key Stage 2, pupils are encouraged to think critically, solve problems and develop their scientific understanding through first-hand experiences.

At Fordbridge, we aim to empower every child to see themselves as a scientist: curious, capable and ready to make a positive difference in the world.
